Roraima Tepuy

1Day 1 - Caracas / Puerto Ordaz

Arrival to Caracas, local flight to Puerto Ordaz, transfer to 3* hotel.

2Day 2 - Canaima

Transfer to airport in Ciudad Bolivar, flight by 5 seats aviette to Canaima National Park. Walking to the boat station, we navigate up of Carrao and Churun rivers to the jungle camp..Our boat is a type of wooden canoe for 10-12 people with engine. Lots of emotions when our operators fight with fast river, push the boat, get out of boat and walk through sabana. On the way we stop for lunch close to the small waterfall where we can take a shower. Depending on level of water in rivers we go shortest around 4 h, longest 6h. All the time we are accompanied by majesty of Auyan tepuy. From far we see Salto Angel fall. Dinner in the camp under palm roof. That night we sleep in hammocks. Conditions - survival. Generator turned off after dinner. We sit at candle light. 

3Day 3 - Canaima

After breakfast around 8 am we leave the camp and walk through the jungle, climb to Salto Angel -the highest (1000m) waterfall in the world. We get to the view point where you can make wonderful pictures. At the bottom of Salto Angel there is a pool where you can stand under refreshing shower - well depends on season of your trip. We come back for lunch in the camp and start going by curriara back to Canaima lagoon. Journey is faster as curriara is going with the direction of river. There we have dinner and accommodations in rooms with private shower (cold water) and toilet. 

4Day 4 - Canaima / Santa Elena

After breakfast we take a bout 20min to get closer to El Sapo, Sapito waterfalls in lagoon,here you can walk under water curtain. Before noon flight by aviette to Santa Elena. This is very beautiful fligh over real lost world of jungle cut by rivers tepuys appearing above clouds. Flight takes 1h 30 min. We go to Brazilian town La Linea, here is souvenirs bazaar, churrascaria restaurants . Late afternoon accommmodation in Venezuela Explorer tropical ecolodge in comfortable rooms with hot water. Relaxing walk in flowery garden, fruit plantation, watching birds and animals. Dinner.

5Day 5 - Roraima

Around 9 am we prepare equipment and go by jeep around 2 h to Paratepui from where trekking starts. 4 h hiking, first night in tents at Rio Tek river.

6Day 6 - Roraima

From Kukenan river to the base of Tepuy. It takes 4-5h up and down hills of sabana, passing rivers where you can resfresh.

7Day 7 - Roraima

The most difficult part around 1km climbing on rocks, beautiful scenery around - forests, clouds, stones like from different planet, you see all lanscape of Gran Sabana down.

8Day 8 - Roraima

Exploring the top of Roraima with amasing nature there: cristal valley, lake in the earth with waterfall, strange shapes of rocks, unique plants, 3point - boarder of Venezuela, Guayana, Brasil

9Day 9 - Roraima

Going down to Rio Tek camp

10Day 10 - Roraima

Last day leaving the camp to get to Indian village Paraitepui and transfer back to Santa Elena. There refreshing shower, visit in tropical hacienda with plantation of different kind of fruits. Free time. Night bus to Puerto Ordaz. Bus is airconded too much in the night (standard of Venezuela!?), warm cloth needed!

11Day 11 - Gran Sabana

After breakfast we go for jeep safari. First stop 30min from Santa Elena close to Agua Fria waterfall. We go down to cristalic waters of natural swimming pool. Then we walk by river banks to the place from which waterfall drops. In front wonderful view on rain forests of Gran Sabana. 
Next we stop at place called jurassic park with amazing panorama on hills of Sabana with moriche palms. After that Quebrada de Jaspe. Spectacular cascade of water and red jaspis stone. Bottom of river cover by red and black stone looks like fur of tiger. Next we go to Soroape waterfalls where you can swim in natural pools, take a shower under waterfall or massage in natural jacuzzi made from rocks in the river.We eat lunch at indian village - San Francisco de Yuruani. Here also you can buy handcrafts made by Indians Taurepanes. En the end view point on tepuy Roraima, Kukenan and impressive Kama waterfall 55m high. Return to Santa Elena, time to refresh, night bus to Puerto Ordaz.


12Day 12 - Delta Orinoco

Transfer from bus station to Tucupita. There we go by boat around 1 h on Orinoco river to our camp at the banks of the river and surrounded by jungle. Accommodations in typical palafitos where walls are made from moskitieras. You will hear all voices of nature during night and early morning. After lunch we go by boat for watching animals in canals of delta: monkeys, river dolphins, parrots, tukans, iguanas. We will also fish piranha. Walk in the rain forest, a guide presents different kind of plants used by indians as natural medicine and for common use at home life. Sunset in the place where birds are coming back for a night. Dinner. In the camp we walk on wooden bridges over water.

13Day 13 - Delta Orinoco / Margarita

After breakfast we continue tour by boat at canals of delta, visit Warao Indians village. Here you can buy handcrafts.  Mid day transfer to the airport. Flight to Margarita Island. Transfer to hotel 3-5* depending of your requirements. All inclusive stay at Playa el Agua. 

14Day 14 - 19  Margarita

Free time as you wish. For additional payment of around $290 you can flight for full day with snorkelling and lunch to small islands of Los Roques. This is virgin place with wonderfull corals and cristalic turcus waters. There are dolphins in Porlamar where for around $50 you can swim 1h with dolphins. All day safari jeep around Isla Margarita costs around $50.

20Day 20 - Margarita / Caracas

Morning transfer to the airport, flight from Porlamar to Caracas.

Typical day of trekking:

  1. 07:00 wake up call for morning caffe/tea
  2. 08:00 breakfast (toasts, pancakes, musli with milk, juices)
  3. 09:00 getting ready with tents and personal belongings. Potters carring food and kitchen equipment, 4h hiking to the next camp
  4. 12:00 Lunch
  5. 13:00 continuation of hiking, stopping at rivers
  6. 17:00 – 18:00 getting to the camp, tents preparing, dinner

  1. 100% bank transfer at least 14 days before travel  in low season, 35 days in high season

Attendance confirmation

The group will consist of up to 10 persons, the list of attendees will be closed when enough people collected usually 2 weeks before departure date.
Each of tourist should read the rules of attendance attached to the section of expeditions

Standard of our hotels

In cities we book clean and estetic rooms with private bathrooms. Gran Sabana Indian villages offer rooms with private bathrooms but very basic conditions. In Canaima one night is in hamoocks In the camp at the banks of ther river with view on Salto Angel. On Margarita Island, Playa Agua hotel 3* all inclusive (3 meals per day in a form of open bar, local alcohol and cold drinks at hotel bar and beach bar, sunbeds an sun towels). In Venezuela you cannot throw awal toilet paper to the toilet bowl but to baskets beside. Majority of hotels, posadas guarantee soap, towels, but you need your own towel in Canaima. During trekking on Roraima we sleep in tents (we guarantee all equipment), in Delta Orinoco in typical palafitos.

Equipment and clothes

The rain is possible on Roraima and temperature there is few degrees above 0°C. Recommended sport clothes, comfortable hiking shoes, hats against sun, cotton clothes covering all body, sweater in the night, rain jacket, sun protection with high protector, repellents, basic medicines/first help aid, torch, plastic bags . Cost of renting a personal potter on Roraima is around USD 25 per day with max capacity of luggage of 15kg

Vaccines

In Venezuela not required but recommended hepatitis A+B, typhoid fever, tetanus toxoid + diphtheria, yellow fever certificate obligatory to cross the Brasilian border.

Visa

Not required, passport valid at least 6 months.
