Delta Orinoco Los Roques

1Day 1 - Maturin or Puerto Ordaz Delta Orinoco

Transfer from hotel in Maturin or Puerto Ordaz around 2 hours to Boca de Uracoa close to Tucupita town to get on boat at 11:30 am. Going to lodge approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Lodge is comfortable and blends with the surroundings. Check-In your cabin and enjoy the area around the camp with a dug-out canoe. Camp has a small zoo, you can see there the Giant Otter, the Blue and Yellow Macaw, the Howler Monkey, the Puma.

COMMENT: For those who fly from Caracas or Porlamar in the morning boat will be waiting at 14:30pm. Afternoon activities will be done in such scenario next day. This day will be just relax in tropical cozy lodge.
For those who catch the boat at 11:30 am - After lunch we start our excursion by motor boat to explore remote areas. Here we will visit the Warao Indians and learn how they live in this isolated land of swamps and jungles. We will take an unforgettable jungle walk with expert guides to discover the beauty of this wonderful place. The area is rich of fauna and flora. Tall giant trees and palm galleries shaped through thousands of years. An infinite network of small and big rivers flowing slowly covered with a carpet of water haycinth plants. This is home for many birds including macaws, parrots, toucans, kingfishers, herons, hawks, egrets and storks. The fauna includes howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, giant river otters, freshwater dolphins, agoutis, pumas, and jaguars. many species of snakes including the mighty anaconda and boa constrictors. Coming back to the camp for dinner.

2Day 2 - Delta Orinoco

After breakfast going by motor boats thru the canals of delta for watching wild nature. If you like to fish, you will have a shot at the fierce Piranha which are abundant. For those who like swimming there is a safety place in the middle of Orinoco river where you can jump from the boat. This is the place often visited by river dolphins. Between activities coming back to camp for lunch. Dinner in camp. Drinks are available at the bar.

3Day 3 - Delta Orinoco - Caracas - Los Roques

After breakfast 7:30 am we go by boats in the direction of Boca de Uracoa. Tranfer to Maturin or Puerto Ordaz airport. Flight to Caracas. Connecting flight to Los Roques (COMMENT: or night in Caracas hotel close to airport and next day morning flight to Los Roques – depends on availability of charter flights at the moment of reservation and date of payment from the client). Accomodations in medium standard guest house - posada in fisherman style on the main Island. Dinner.

4Day 4 - Los Roques

After breakfast you can rent a boat to different islands, boats are equiped with sun ambrellas and chairs. Some of islands have restaurants otherwise you have to order lunch box and drinks cooler to eat on one of unhabitted islands. Also you can rent snorkeling equipment to admire beauty of coral raves. Sun on Los Roques is very strong, you need very high sun protector 45-60! Dinner at posada.

5Day 5 - Los Roques Caracas

After breakfast short relax, flight back to Caracas at 11:00 am. 11:30 arrival at domestic airport in Caracas or to Porlamar.
Comment: you can buy more nights in Los Roques for additional payment. (standard quest house with breakfast/dinner per person USD 100, medium standard USD 150 per person , luxury standard USD 200 per person).

Recommended clothes and equipment

Kindly requested 10kg luggage max! small airplanes do not accept heavier luggage. Otherwise you have to pay additionally to the airlines or look for storage.

  6. long sleeves shirts and trousers (against mosquitos)
  7. high sun protector 45-60 (strong sun on Los Roques)
  8. spray on mosquitos
  9. first help aid with medicines for stomach problems

Vaccines

In Venezuela not required but recommended hepatitis A+B, typhoid fever, tetanus toxoid + diphtheria, yellow fever certificate obligatory to cross the Brasilian border.
